At about the 0:30 mark the deep bass synth rolls in… This very impressive remix by Chromeo appeared on the Scion compilation album “Fool’s Gold Remixed” around October of last year. The original Treasure Fingers track had quite a few remixes on it, but this version kills it. Just like my post a few days ago (Tigercity was great! btw), it’s reminiscent of the post-disco era of the early 80s, a beautiful synthy dance concoction. TF refers to themselves as a disco-house group, but Chromeo plants them firmly in 1983 with this one…

I continue to believe that one of the most creative eras in dance music was the “post-disco” early 80s just as synthesizers were starting to break onto the scene. Everyone was very experimental and there was a lot of stylistic cross-pollination that birthed a grip of new genres: electro, synthpop, new wave, Prince and Rick James incarnations of funk and, of course, rap and the beat box. This Brooklyn band is playing in Boston tonight and I have included one of their 2008 tracks that stands out for me (from their “Pretend to Love” EP) and nicely recreates that dancey synthpop sound. I recommend most any of their work – they are pretty good at bridging a bunch of those early 80s sounds while making it sound fresh and new.
