It was around the early-90s when rap artists really started throwing some quality tracks onto movie soundtracks… sometimes better than those on their own albums. Off the top of the dome, three come to mind: Eric B. & Rakim “Juice (Know the Ledge)” from Juice, A Tribe Called Quest “Hot Sex” from Boomerang and Biggie Smalls “Party and Bullshit” from Who’s the Man?. Of course, that was Biggie’s solo debut too, but it was an anthem in 1993. Well, it seems that same phenomenon may be starting to play itself over again, but in video games. Or at least, I’m just starting to notice it. I have found two in the past few weeks. Today’s is off of the Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned [EP]. It’s only 6 tracks long, and has a mostly underground roster feel to it. The track that stands out for me is Talib’s joint: My Favorite Song. It is classic Kweli and works perfect with some smooth production by Statik Selektah, who I have profiled on this site before as well. If you are not convinced, let me know… I promise the next one will be “golden”:
